Penri reported that the Webserver wasn't working on site and so I brought it to my Workshop and tested it in my Test Rig. There was nothing wrong with the main equipment (Pi and UPS Pico) but the Ethernet / USB Adaptor had failed. This was one of the old unbranded blue laptop adaptors which I've had some troubles with before. I substituted a new Edimax EU-4208 adaptor which is the same type as we've used on the River System Network for some time now.
I also changed the SD Card for one I had built here on the Test Rig. This contains the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS (formerly Raspbian) and a new version of nodogsplash downloaded and built from the source code on the GitLab Repository. Also a new username and password was added and the old 'pi' user account deleted. This was to provide additional protection from hacking because the River System Network (including the Webserver) will shortly be accessible through a Raspberry Pi based VPN Server (see viewforum.php?f=38). The Webserver has also been tested with the VPN Server connected to the network.
The new usernames and passwords for this Pi and for the VPN Server will be available in the WMT safe. The new passwords have been tested with zxcvbn (https://github.com/dropbox/zxcvbn) and both predicted a cracking time of centuries.
I returned the Webserver hardware to Penri for re-installation in the coming days.
Maintenance Summer 2020
Re: Maintenance Summer 2020
I have now updated all of the documentation for the Webserver (now including the VPN Server) and uploaded it to the fileserver; see https://wmtprojectsforum.altervista.org ... r%20System.
