Hi,

Turns out I was wrong, private messaging is now disabled board-wide, and no one can send or receive private messages. The users don't need to to anything.

Currently, we can email each other by clicking on user profiles in posts. Shall I turn that off as well?

Re: Canford liaison - e-mail

Terry - the pupils and I have perfectly good e-mail without using the Forum facility. Does it sent direct to our own e-mail address without disclosing ours to the sender? If so then it sounds like PMing. Probably unnecessary unless you guys use it. rgds

I'm not sure of the context of this statement. Can you explain it?

If you mean are the forum alerts sent to a Users email address without the original poster being made aware of it; then yes, that is the case.

If one of the pupils makes a posting, all of the forum users who are subscribed to the Topic receive an alert to the address that they used when they registered. If you have successfully subscribed to a Topic you will have seen an example of this, eg:
Hello TerryJC,

You are receiving this notification because you are watching the topic
"Canford liaison" at "Wimborne Model Town Projects Forum". This topic has
received a reply by geoffhorton since your last visit. No more
notifications will be sent until you visit the topic.

If you want to view the newest post made since your last visit, click the
following link:

etc, etc

As you can see, I am only made aware that you have posted, not the address that you used. Only the Forum Administrator knows the email addresses.

Is that what you wanted to know?

NB: I have changed the security settings so all emails are done through the board - the aforementioned potential email address privacy issue has been resolved, as no one sees anyone else's email addresses now.
